exactly what I expected September 4, 2010 terri19 I have used this model a few times and it is exactly what I expected. I made the Red Raspberry Gelato (recipe book came with ice cream maker)and it took a little work but was worth it! I put the mixture in a plastic bowl with lid to store in the freezer. I had to set it out a few min. before I served it but it was great. It was not exactly like the consistency or texture of store bought ice cream but I didn't expect it to be. I like knowing what ingredients I am putting into the ice cream. I found it very easy to use. Everyone who tried the gelato loved it.
Great machine September 3, 2010 S. Murtza (New York, NY USA) I have only used the machine once to make frozen yogurt and it worked great. It took 25 minutes to make as advertised. The sounds is a little loud but not as bad as I expected based on teh reviews I read. My only issue with it was that the blades don't actually scrape the side of the container so it leads to almost icy product on the edges. B/w I chilled my mix before putting it in the machine which might be why it did not take more than 25 minutes to be ready.
Great ice cream...with a little practice September 2, 2010 H. G. (California United States) This product makes great ice cream, if you follow a few tips:
1. Freeze the bowl for 24 hours (not 8 hours).
2. If you want to add ingredients at the end, make sure they are frozen in advance (not just cold).
3. About 15 minutes into the cycle, take a dull knife and hold it against the side wall, moving it up and down to prevent ice from forming on the walls (once is enough).
4. Don't worry about the time, wait until the ice cream clearly separates from the blades and begins to stand by itself.
5. Freeze the ice cream at the end for several hours unless you like very very soft ice cream.
I have successfully made ice cream every night for a week using this process.
PS Please don't tell anyone (particularly my family and friends) how easy this is.
Skeptical at first, but love it now! August 31, 2010 J. Fang (Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first batch I made turned out a bit crystalized and not as creamy of a consistency. But subsequent batches I just followed the product recipe book and got perfect, cream texture. Don't know what happened that first batch... Now I fully agree with all the other 5 stars, and I never buy ice cream at the store anymore.
Some additional notes, echoing other reviews:
- Don't plan to save much money per batch; the ingredients come out about as much as store-bought ice cream price
- The results at the end of the 25 minute process is not hard, more like gelato. I have to freeze overnight to get the solid scoops. But 2 quarts of ice cream shouldn't get polished off in one night.
- Ice cream frozen over several nights never turns too hard; always easy to scoop and same creamy texture.
- Because ice cream is still very soft while in machine, I tend to add any ingredients by hand, rather than directly into the machine in the last 5 minutes, as instructed in the recipe book.
- The frozen yogurt recipe is not like frozen yogurt at the store, more like the tarty fro-yo that's really popular now.
- LOVE adding almond extract or peppermint extract to vanilla or chocolate!
Best part: your friends and neighbors will love this purchase.
Quick & Easy ice cream August 31, 2010 Melissa (USA) I have had this ice cream maker for about 1 month and so far it works great and clean up is easy. It freezes up to soft serve in about 20 - 25 minutes. I keep the freezer bowl in the freezer and it is ready to go.
